While individuals are installing solar systems in their homes at a record rate, businesses are not as quick to take up the option.
This might be because of the unfair and outdated impression that solar panels are too expensive for commercial use, and while that may have been true a decade ago, the advancement of solar technology in recent years has made solar panels for business not only viable, but essential.
If you’re running a business, here are three reasons why making the switch to solar makes sense.
Save money with solar panels for business
Let’s be honest, as a business owner, this is one of your main concerns.
The initial investment in solar isn’t cheap, which is why many people are put off by it, but the truth is, solar technology becomes more efficient, smaller, and cheaper each year.
If you looked into making the switch a few years ago and the numbers didn’t add up, you might be surprised to see the difference now.
And even if installing solar panels for business means you just break even, that is the base from which you are starting.
Every year Australia’s electricity bills go up, almost doubling in the previous decade!
The reason for this is the undeniable truth that fossil fuels are dying.
Several old and inefficient coal power plants have closed in South Australia and Victoria recently, decreasing the supply to the respective states, pushing the price up for the consumer.
Add to that the rising cost of running the old power plants which still remain and energy prices are only going one way; up.
By creating your own electricity, you are avoiding the inevitable and continuous rise in energy costs.
No longer reliant on the power company (especially during their more frequent blackouts), a small business could save thousands of dollars in the first year alone, which could mean the difference between staying afloat and going under.
The government want you to make the switch
Australia is at the front of a global charge to run the world on renewable energy.
On a federal level, the Government announced an $18 Billion stimulus package to help people with the effects of the coronavirus. Part of this package is tax breaks on the purchase of solar panels for business.
If your solar system creates more energy than you use, that excess electricity is sent back into the grid and you receive a feed-in tariff from the government. It differs from state to state, but in South Australia, it can be anywhere from 11 to 16.3c/kWh.
Under the Environmental Upgrade Finance (EUF) agreement, businesses can apply for low-interest loans for solar panel installation. These loans are set at fixed, competitive rates, require no deposit, and can be transferred if the property is sold.
The Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme offers financial incentives to install solar panels for business, and runs right up to 2030. Depending on your system’s power generation, you’ll receive a cash amount, usually worth several thousand dollars.
Help fight climate change
Environmentalism is no longer a buzzword, it’s a necessity.
The world is starting to come around to the impending disaster that is climate change, and as we begin to see its devastating effects, more and more people are making a conscious effort to become greener.
For many businesses, going green is a badge of pride, and many consumers would agree.
Younger generations are looking at a company’s ecological footprint before purchasing, and a business that runs on solar power is one that is appealing to potential customers.
Switching your business to solar is the easiest way to contribute to a sustainable future. Solar power is non-polluting, non-toxic, quiet, and produces no waste materials.
Quite simply, it’s the future.
