Bright Earth recently retrofitted a pair of Enphase batteries into a customer’s existing solar system, and things couldn’t have gone better.
The Enphase AC Battery is simple to install, safe, very reliable, and provides the lowest lifetime energy cost for both new solar customers and those who already have a solar powered system in their home.
Determining power usage
These Enphase batteries are designed to be customised to the unique needs of the homeowner, and this particular house was monitored using the Enphase Envoy device which allowed us to determine how much power was being used.
The Envoy brings real-time, module-level performance data which makes it easy to monitor a system from any web-connected device. In this case the device not only told us how much power was being used, but how much was being exported back into the grid, and at what time of day this was happening.
Using these stats, Bright Earth Electrical determined that the owner would need at least 5kwh of storage to maximise self-consumption. The batteries also limit the amount exported to the grid and lower feed-in tariffs, therefore enabling the stored power to be used at night.

For what they can achieve, the batteries only weigh in at 25kg, making them easier to install and connect. The client was on a budget, and opted for two batteries at the moment, with our recommendation of two more to be installed at some point later on. Retrofitting these new designs is relatively simple, and adding more in the future is always an option.
The system is completely monitored online by both the customer and the company through the enlighten software, so the owner has total control and is kept up-to-date at all times. The Enphase AC is a modular system and the battery size is a 1.2kwh with a discharge power of 270w.
